Countless programs, resources, and opportunities for students are made possible through the support of the parents of the school community. The members of the Parents’ Organizations of the high school and middle school, of the Osborn PTA, and of the Midland and Milton PTO’s work tirelessly to give students cultural programs, classroom materials, extracurricular activities, curriculum enhancement, and scholarships which could not otherwise be afforded. They donate hundreds of new books to our libraries. They provide tutoring, assistance in the school libraries and in the College and Career Center in Rye High School, chaperone school sponsored events, and share their expertise with our teachers and students. Individually and collectively, the five organizations work collaboratively with other community organizations to sponsor programs and events open to the general public.
In addition to its fundraising and school-based activities, the parents organizations also promote special interest groups such as international and new parents groups and holds events to give parents the opportunity to get to know one another socially. Each year, each school’s parents organization publishes a student directory which, in addition to students’ and parents/guardians’ names, addresses, and telephone numbers, contains personnel lists and other useful information pertinent to the individual school.
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act, the school district cannot provide the parents’ organizations with any student information. Therefore, each parent/guardian is encouraged to complete a parents’ organization information form when registering their child(ren) and to directly notify the specific parents organization of any changes or corrections in its files.
The parents organizations generally meet once a month during the school year. All parents are encouraged and welcome to attend. For more information on each school’s parents organization, please contact the school’s main office.
