School Excellence Teams

SCHOOL EXCELLENCE TEAMS

School and district decision-making is consistent with the requirements of the New York State Department of Education "New Compact for Learning" through the work of Excellence Teams at each school. Each elementary Excellence Team is comprised of teachers, parents, community residents, and the principal. In the middle and high schools’ Excellence Teams, student representatives are also members. Excellence Teams meet to ensure that each school is excellent in deed as well as in word. Members pursue initiatives designed to contribute to the attainment of the district’s Improvement Initiatives and Objectives; to identify, by investigation and feedback, areas for school improvement initiatives; to serve as a forum for addressing concerns and raising issues; and to develop action plans designed to achieve the improvement initiatives.

In addition, Excellence Teams work collaboratively with the central administration to secure the resources necessary to achieve the school’s improvement initiatives; communicate with all interested constituencies as to the teams’ progress; are responsible for monitoring and evaluating progress toward the achievement of school improvement initiatives; and implement any decisions that do not negatively impact other schools and do not require the expenditure of more funds than are available to the school and which do not conflict or call for a change in district policy, contracts, statutes, or Commissioner’s Regulations.

Anyone interested in serving on a school Excellence Team in the future should speak to the principal.
