PARENT TEACHERS ORGANIZATION

Osborn School strives to offer a rich and varied educational experience within an environment that encourages personal, social and academic growth. The Osborn School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) strives to complement the Osborn curriculum and overall educational experience. PTO members work to provide a school year filled with enriching activities for Osborn students, faculty and families. The PTO budget is the result of two major fundraisers, the Carnival and Silent Auction, which are traditionally held on a Saturday in October. The additional fundraisers include two book fairs and a gift wrap sale. These major fundraisers support many PTO programs including After-School clubs, Author visits, and Cultural Enrichment programs for all grades. We also fund classroom initiatives including a second grade chess program and a fifth grade ballroom dance program. In addition, the PTO provides outreach programs to support communities less fortunate than our own. Parents work with students to help support a local food pantry and contribute hundreds of holiday gifts to children at a school in New York City.

The PTO is run by an Executive Committee which is chaired by two Co-Presidents who each serve for a term of two years. In addition there are four Vice Presidents, a Treasurer and a Recording Secretary. There are 38 Committees of parents which run the numerous activities and programs throughout the school year. PTO Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month. Parents are encouraged to attend to stay informed and involved. The Principal speaks at the start of every meeting and various guest speakers appear throughout the year. Japanese PTO Osborn School is lucky to have a culturally diverse population which is rich with many international students. We have many Japanese families at our school which are additionally represented by the Japanese PTO.

This PTO organization operates officially as a Committee of the Osborn School PTO, however, they also hold regular Japanese meetings which are very helpful and welcoming for the non-English speaking new families. The Japanese PTO takes pride in sharing their culture with all students and faculty at Osborn by doing several activities during the year including “Japan Week” and many other traditional holiday celebrations.
