It is the philosophy of the Rye City School District Board of Education to provide an appropriate instructional program to all of its students. The Board of Education of the Rye City School District adopts as policy the instructional requirements of Part 154 and part 117 of the Regulations of the Commissioner governing the education of students with limited English proficiency (LEP)
The district ensures that:
1. All new students are screened for limited English proficiency.
2. When appropriate, students are identified LEP and annually evaluated, including performance in the content areas, to measure academic progress, and to determine continued eligibility.
3. LEP students are guaranteed access to appropriate instructional and support services, including guidance programs; and provided equal opportunities to participate in all appropriate school programs and extracurricular activities.
4. Upon suspicion of a disability, LEP students will be referred to the Committee on Special Education for a bilingual, multi-disciplinary assessment in accordance with the Provisions of Part 200.
