Introduction:
When poisonous, dirty or harmful substances get into the air it is said to be polluted. There are lots of different types of air pollution. Industry's waste products are emitted into the air from factories. Pesticides drift across the land and are carried through the air when farmers spray them onto crops. Animal waste from farms with large numbers of animals produces gases which cause air pollution. Power stations burn coal, natural gas, and oil, and the smoke and fumes rise from their chimney into the atmosphere. Cars, trucks, trains and buses burn gasoline or diesel and release their exhaust gases.

Task:
You and your family have gone on trip around the world. While you were visiting some of these places you had concerns about some of the things that you saw. You were wondering why some lakes no longer had fish, the trees in the forest did not look healthy, and buildings and statues were deformed and crumbling. When you asked your parents why this was happening, they told you that is was caused by acid rain.

It is your job to find out what acid rain is, the causes and effects, and some solutions on how we can stop this from happening. Then present this information in a PowerPoint presentation using the Acid Rain Slide Guide. You will then have to present it to the class and some members of the communtity.

Process:
You should find information about Acid Rain from the library, CD Tower Applications such as Encarta and Worldbook, and using at least four of the Internet sites found below. Print any articles that you want to use and highlight information that will help you complete the Acid Rain Information sheet.
(See teacher before printing.)
Remember to make a resource card for each site or book that you use. You will need this information for a "Works Cited" page that will be handed in with your final project. You will need to print the Acid Rain Information sheet and find the necessary facts about Acid Rain. Any other information you include will add interest to your PowerPoint project.
(Check with your teacher after you have completed this step.)
You should create a PowerPoint presentation with at least seven slides using the information that you found. Each slide must include a relevant picture. See PowerPoint Instruction sheet if you need help. Complete Checklist for your PowerPoint presentation to assure you have included all important information.
(Hand this in to your teacher when you are done.)

Resources:
Using the Internet sites below as well as any information from the library.
Don't forget about the CD Rom Tower which has "Encarta and World
Book" Encyclopedias.

Please remember to site every place you get information.
(see the How to site your references). Also use the PowerPoint Directions and Inserting Pictures sheet to help you work in PowerPoint.

You must have at least one picture on every slide.

When you believe that you are finished make sure you have read and checked off the items on the Check List. Also go through the
Rubric Evaluation: Your project will be assessed with the Rubric. Good Luck!

Conclusion:

Acid rain is slowly deteriorating our planet. It is our responsibility to make sure that we protect the earth for future generations to enjoy.
