I-Tribal Structure

In 1570, the tribes formed a confederacy called the League of Five Nations. It was the first form of democracy in the New World. This happened fifty years before the Pilgrims landed in the Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. The Iroquois had ceremonies and festivals which were very important. Most of the events were held to honor the Great Spirit who provided good crops and animals to hunt. Some ceremonies were held to scare off the Evil Spirit.
